Lowry's Ava Swensen battles for control of the ball in Friday's 2-2 tie against Elko on Friday in Winnemucca.

The last time the Lowry High School girls soccer team played on its home field, school was in session for just a couple weeks and it was summer.

Well, this past weekend still felt like summer, as the Lady Bucks were back home for the first time since Aug. 31.

The two matches Lowry hosted were important for possible playoff seeding later this month for the Northern 3A Regional Championships.

Lowry and Elko are in a fight for second in the Northern 3A East and an opening-round playoff match at home.

The Indians won the first meeting 3-1 in early September, with the Lady Bucks looking to enact some revenge.

Lowry celebrates after tying the score at 2-2 against Elko on Friday night in Winnemucca.

Wind was the story of the day on Friday, as a constant wind over 20 mph played havoc with the two squads.

Elko used the wind to its aid in the first half, scoring goals in the 25th and 33rd minutes to go in front 2-0.

The first goal came off a misplay by the Lady Buckaroo defense. Allowing an easy shot. The second came off a shot that in another player on the field and into the goal.

Lowry cut the deficit in half just a couple minutes later off a shot by Natalia Guizar off an assist by Britain Backus.

The two switched roles in the 39th minute, as Guizar crossed a path in front of the Elko goal and Backus finished off the shot.

That was all the scoring, as the two teams failed to find the goal in the final 40 minutes. Lowry had an excellent chance on the final play of the contest but could not convert. Cleo Fowler had three saves on the day.

Lowry's Adalyn Entwistle kicks the ball to a teammate after the Lowry defense stopped a Elko run on Friday night in Winnemucca.

Lowry sweeps Spring Creek

Lowry finished the season sweep of Spring Creek on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win to improve to 9-6-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the Northern 3A East.

The Lady Bucks did most of their damage in the first 33 minutes of the contest with a pair of goals. Backus netted the first goal in the 14th minute and Ava Swensen made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

The score remained 2-0 until the 57th minute on a second goal by Backus. Spring Creek scored its goal late in the second half.

Churchill County leads the Northern 3A East at 12-0-0, with Lowry second at 9-2-1 and Elko (7-2-1) is third.

The Indians have played two fewer matches than the Lady Bucks and own the tiebreaker with the head-to-head win in early September

Fernley (6-3-1) and Spring Creek (6-6) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Lowry is back on the road for three straight matches, including West Wendover on Friday and White Pine on Saturday.

Lowry travels to Battle Mountain on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a 3:45 p.m. start.
