The postseason opportunities for the Lowry High School boys soccer team took a hit this past weekend with two league losses in Elko County.

Lowry traveled to Elko on Friday afternoon and suffered a 5-1 loss to the league-leading Indians.

Elko netted three goals in the first 40 minutes of, as Lowry attempted to stay within striking distance with a first-half goal by Joao Lisboa off an assist from Carlos Valdez.

However, the Indians picked up two goals in the final 40 minutes of play. 

In the first league meeting, the two rivals tied 2-2.


Lowry blanked by Spring Creek

Lowry was back on the bus Saturday to eastern Nevada to finish the Elko County road trip and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spring Creek.

The Spartans collected one goal in each half by Hunter Heiele and Cole Montgomery.

He two losses dropped Lowry to sixth place in the Northern 3A East at 5-4-2.

The top four teams advance to the Northern 3A Regional Championships and home sites and Churchill County High School.

Elko is in front at 9-0-1, with the only blemish coming from Lowry. 

Spring Creek (8-3-0), West Wendover (8-3-0) and Churchill County (7-4-0) close out the top four.

Lowry returns to the bus and eastbound I-80 to play West Wendover on Friday and the trip concludes Saturday in Ely against White Pine.
