Local Civil Air Patrol Unit takes to the skies

Humboldt County Composite Squadron 68 of Winnemucca Nevada hosted an Orientation flight day on Aug. 10 and took local cadets and even some from Elko

Nevada for their first flight in a small powered plane. All of the cadets got to go through preflight and learn about what it takes to inspect the aircraft before flight and make sure it is safe to fly, as well as being in the cockpit learning about the instruments (gauges) and levers.

Shortly after going over the aircraft and controls and a full tank of fuel they headed for the runway and left the ground.

In the air the cadets got to handle the controls and feel what it is like to handle the airplane in flight. After a while in the sky, they land and switch seats so all the kids get a ride in the front seat

The Civil Air Patrol is an official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force and offers leadership training, character development, emergency services, and aerospace training for youth and adults.
