The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team started the second half of the Northern 2A schedule on its home floor last weekend, as the school celebrated homecoming.

It was not the start Battle Mountain was looking for, as Incline won in four sets on Friday night 25-12, 25-17, 19-25 and 25-23.

The Lady Longhorns were looking for a season sweep of North Tahoe on Saturday afternoon, but the Lakers avenged the earlier loss with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 victory. 

Battle Mountain dropped to 8-13 overall and 4-7 in the Northern 2A.

Against Incline, senior Stevlana Martinez led the team with six kills and four blocks, while Addison Matheus contributed five kills. 

Alissa Heinz added three kills and Halie Edgar and Lindsey Bleak each added two kills. In addition, Matheus had a block.

The Lady Longhorns recorded eight aces, including two apiece from Andrea Alcaraz-Lopez, Asier Iturriaga and Bleak. 

The Battle Mountain defense was busy with 31 digs, including 10 from Bleak and seven more by Noel Hill. Lopez picked up five digs and Alexis Rangel and Iturriaga four each.

Heinz and Jazmin Johnson paced the Lady Longhorns with eight and seven assists, respectively.

Battle Mountain heads out on the road on Friday to Fallon to play Oasis Academy at 5 p.m. BMHS moves over to Yerington on Saturday at noon.
