Lowry's Backus among three 2025 signees for Nevada women’s basketball team

RENO — Three players have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball for Nevada next season, as announced by Head Coach Amanda Levens on Wednesday.

The class features two guards and a forward, all from different states (Nevada, California and Arizona).

Britain Backus

• Point Guard, 5’7, Winnemucca, Lowry High School

As a three-sport athlete, Britain Backus has earned many honors.

Not only did she play basketball for three years in high school, she also played soccer and ran track.

While playing basketball, Backus won back-to-back state titles in 2022 and 2023 and won the region championships in 2023.

She was also named First Team All-League and All-State in 2022, and First Team All-State in 2023.

Other accolades include First Team 3A East and North in 2023.

Backus played club basketball for Utah Summit.

She says she chose Nevada because the coaches took the time to get to know her on a deeper level and she’s excited to play close to home, where she can represent the community of Winnemucca.

“We are ecstatic to be able to keep Britain home in Northern Nevada,” Coach Levens said. “Britain is a relentless guard who brings a level of toughness and tenacity that embodies how we want to play. Wolf Pack fans will love her grit.”

Gabby Ramos

As a four-year member of the Clovis East HS team, Gabby Ramos has earned multiple honors.

The One Finals One on One Challenge hosted by Jordan Brand this summer in conjunction with the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ramos says she chose Nevada because the coaches have her best interests at heart and her decision will help make her successful in her endeavors after college.

“We are so excited to add Gabby to our Pack,” said Coach Levens. “Gabby is a 3-level scorer who brings in international experience representing the Philippines and playing against some of the best competition in the world. Gabby’s length and scoring will add tremendous value to our program.”

Makayla Carter

• Forward, 6’2, Tucson, Arizona, Mountain View High School

Makayla Carter has received many honors during her basketball career.

She was named First Team All-Conference her freshman, sophomore years.

She earned Defensive Player of the Year during her sophomore and junior years.

Last season, Carter averaged 14 ppg, 10 rpg, two bpg and two spg.

On top of her high school career, she also played for club team, AZ Supreme. Carter is also part of the National Honors Society and was on the Principal Distinguished List.

Carter says she chose Nevada because it felt like home the first time she stepped on the campus; she developed an amazing relationship with the coaching staff and she loves the fast-paced offense the Wolf Pack plays.

Coach Levens said, “We are thrilled that Makayla is joining our Pack. She is a long, athletic, versatile forward that will bring a level of defensive intensity to our program. Pack fans will love how she defends and enhances our transition offense.”
