The Pershing County and Coral Academy football teams clash on the field on senior night in Lovelock on Friday.

Last Friday, 14 Lovelock seniors played the last regular season football game of their high school years.

On senior night, the Pershing County High School football team  defended its undefeated status, won the league championship and claimed the No.1 seed going into the playoffs.

"We have a large senior class participation so it was an emotional night," said coach Mike Brooks.

Fans packed the stands on the chilly fall evening to celebrate their loved one's accomplishments.

The Mustangs had to prevail by at least nine points to secure the number one playoff berth.

The game came close to being their fifth shutout win of the year.

Pershing County's Trenton Rhodes runs the ball backed up by Angelo Gibson.

The first quarter against the visiting Coral Academy Falcons ended at 44-7. The final score was 65-7.

“Coral came in and executed real well to convert a touchdown in the first drive. We responded well and returned the ensuing kickoff to gain the lead,” Brooks said.

The Mustangs' offensive onslaught stunned the opposition.

The coach credits the O-Line for paving the way for PCHS' numerous touchdown runs.

Senior WB/DB Angelo Gibson had his second career touchdown and his first on special teams.

Efrain Aceves, also a senior, secured another special teams touchdown.

Trenton Rhodes, a junior, turned a long run into Mustang points.

Tyrn Sam, a senior FB/MLB, had an active night adding yardage and a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Fellow senior Travis Donaldson rushed for 43 yards to score for the Mustangs before the half, which ended at 50-7.

Defensively, senior WR/DB Michael Reitz caught his fifth interception of the year.

Senior OL/DL Brian Flores and Sam anchored the hard working defensive front.
