McDermitt High School inducts new Hall of Fame class


The newest class of the McDermitt High School Hall of Fame was inducted this past Saturday, at the McDermitt Community Hall.


PRECIOUS MASTERS 

Three-time Northeast Player of the Year. Las Vegas Review class 1A player of the year. 

19th all-time scorer in basketball with 1,705 points scored in her career. second all-time points scored in class 1A, third all-time most free throws made in class 1A with 251, 13th in career rebounds overall and third all-time in class 1A. 

Second in most points scored in a season in class 1A with 543. fourth and fifth in most points scored in a single game class 1A with 39 and 37. 

Class 1A most free throws attempted in a single game with 18. fourth overall for most rebounds in a single game with 27 and then sets 7th overall for most rebounds with 26 in back-to-back games in one of the largest girls’ basketball tournaments in the nation with schools with enrollments over 1,000 students.

Fourth in 1A for a single season with 322 rebounds and 7th in another season with 303 rebounds. Holds the record and second place with most points in a half in class A with 24 and 23. 

Holds the state record and second place for most points in a quarter with 18 and 18. She also played four years of volleyball. As a freshman she ran the 100, threw the shot put, and discus. 

As a sophomore she qualified for both regional and State in those events.


STAHELI WILKINSON UGALDE

Four-time first team Northeast division honors in Basketball. 

2013 co-player of the year. Reno Gazette Journal all North point guard. second all-time free throws made in class 1A with 261, second overall in most assists in a career with 619 and first all-time in 1A.

Sixtth overall in steals and second all-time in class 1A with 476. 

Fifth overall in most assists in a single season and first in class 1A with 195. 

She also holds the second most in this category with 170 in a season and third most with 152 in another season. 20th overall for most steals in a season 147 and fifth in a single season game in class 1A. 

Tied for second overall with most assists in a single game with 14 and holds the record for most steals in a single game class 1A with 14. 

Led the Lady Bulldogs to a state runner up title as a freshman point guard. Volleyball Reno gazette All North right-side hitter 2012 and Northeastern Volleyball Player of the Year 2012.

Four-year letterman in both volleyball and basketball. Graduated from Washington State University and is Dr. Ugalde, veterinarian.


KRISTIN LONG

Seventh all-time rebounds in a career overall and second all-time in class 1A with 1,063. third in most rebounds in a single season 1A with 323. 18th overall with most rebounds in a single game with 20 in all the leagues. 

Fifth in rebounds in class 1A for a single game. First team Northeast Division selection one year and selected second team in Northeast division the next.

She also lettered in track one year competing in the shot put and discus.


BECKY KERSHNER GALLEGER

 Lettered four years in volleyball and four years in basketball. 10th all- time in blocked shots in 1A with 111. 9th in class 1A for rebounds with 302. 

First in class 1A for blocked shots in a single season with 100. fifth all-time class 1A for kills in a season with 358. 

Reno Gazette All North Outside Hitter and Northeast Player of the year.


VA DRAUNIDALO

Lettered 4 years in both volleyball and basketball. third in class 1A for most points in a half with 20.

First team Northeast 1A conference. Qualified for state track in 2016 and 2017 in the high jump, shot put, discus.


ASHLEY EGAN

Lettered in basketball three years and volleyball 4 years. She also qualified for state in track and field in the shot put with second place, third place in the discus, and high jump.

Not many people can compete in the shot put and discus then in the high jump. 

She was also academic state champion in 2008 and 2009 in track. In 2016 she received her AA degree in nursing and in 2018 her BA degree in Nursing.

She is now a registered nurse at the hospital in Elko.


JOHN HILL

He lettered in all three sports football, basketball, track and field. 

In football he was all-state end his junior and senior years and lettered all four years.

He played on the 1969 State Championship football team and the 1971 Co-Championship team. In basketball he was on the all-conference second team averaging 18.8 rebounds a game.

His season total was 263 rebounds. John was also on student council for 4 years and student body president his senior year. 

He lettered all four years in all three sports. He was recruited by both the Naval Academy and the Nebraska cornhuskers to play football. He passed on those opportunities to keep the family’s farm after the death of his father. 

He  served on the school board for 12 years.


JOHN PORTERFIELD

Four-year letterman in football, won state championship in football 1968 and in 1969. He was voted all state defensive end in 1968 AND 1969. 

He lettered all four years of football and three years of basketball. He researched and presented us with the early years of how McDermitt High School sports started. 


MONTE MODDRELL

Lettered in four sports. Football, basketball, track and roping in rodeo. Selected to four all Northern League teams in football and second team all-state as a defensive end, two all division basketball teams, went to state in the track events for the shot put and discus. 

He was champion discus thrower in 1999 with a best throw 147’9”.  He was named Nevada State boys Heisman winner his senior year. NIAA student athlete of the year. Selected for Northern Nevada Student Council both his Junior and Senior years and once for both the North and South in the same year. 

He’s in his fourth-year coaching at Craigmont, Idaho. He’s in his 9th year coaching football in Lewis County. Took a team with only 4 wins in 4 years to the playoffs 3 out of the last 5 years. 


TAMMY MENTABERRY-POLLOCK

FRESHMAN YEAR- varsity volleyball, cheerleader, band, drill team, GAA, pep club, STATE TRACK third place in the 100-yard dash, third place in the 220-yard dash, third place in the 440 and second place in the long jump.

SOPHOMORE YEAR- Varsity basketball, volleyball, track, band, drill team, first place 100-yard dash, second in the 220-yard dash, first place in the 440-yard dash, first in long jump. The team of Tammy, Stacey Crow, Frances Garfield, Joetta Kerns, and Maxine Sam were state runner-up in track. Tammy set the record in the B league for the 440-yard dash that year. 

Then that summer she placed second in the 440-yard dash in the Junior Olympics held in Reno, Nevada. JUNIOR YEAR- Varsity basketball, varsity volleyball, Track, FHA, Yearbook staff. In May of her Junior year placed second and had a personal best in the 440-yard dash and took fourth place in the Long Jump at the Provo, Utah invitational with athletes from 5 states. In the state track meet her junior year – she placed first in all four events 220, 440, 880 and long jump. She set new records in 880 and long jump. 

After high school- graduated college, coached at Lowry for 17 years where basketball teams she coached were zone champions in 1988-89, basketball state semifinals 1988-89, basketball runners-up in 1989-90 where she was voted Coach of the Year, Basketball State Champions in1991-92 and made it to the state semi-finals the next year 1992-93.


MARK REEVES

Four-year letterman in football, two-way starter as a defensive and offensive end, All-State center on offense and All State on defense in 1970. 

He played on two Co-Championship teams and a state championship team. He also lettered four years in basketball, competed and lettered in track his freshman and junior years.

MIKE KEY

Deceased - Lettered four years in football, played end on two state championship football teams 1968-69 and 1970-71. Played four years of basketball, three of those on varsity lettering three times. Was voted team captain during his varsity years and played on the team that placed second in the zone championships. He then was elected Bock M President his senior year.


FRANKLIN “Frankie” HILL

Played four years of football and was selected for All North Tight End in 2011. Earned three varsity letters on McDermitt’s three basketball title teams in 2010, 2011, 2012 earning honorable mention post season. He also was a state champion in track where he was a four-year letterman. He was a regional champion in the 300-meter hurdles and placed second at state in that event. Overall, he competed in four events in track qualifying for state as a sophomore in the triple jump, 110 hurdles, and state champion in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.03. He also ran the 110-meter hurdles. He held the McDermitt school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.87 seconds. At one time he held the school records for 110 and 300 hurdles, the 100-meter sprint and the 400-meter run. In his spare time, he was asked to throw the shot put 37’, triple jump 39’, javelin 110 meters, and discus 115 feet.


WILSON CRUTCHER

Four-year letterman in football, played on the State Championship football team in 1969 and the State runner-up football team in 1970, the 1971 Co-championship football team along the State runner-up team in 1972. He was a two-way starter on those teams as a running back on offense and a safety on the defense. He was selected for the all-state team as a safety. He lettered all four years in basketball and made the all-tournament team as a junior and was captain of the team as a senior. In the yearbook he was named as the biggest flirt and the most athletic.


BRADLEY CRUTCHER

Lettered four years in football as a two-way starter playing offensive and defensive guard. He played on the 1969 championship team. He also earned three letters playing basketball.


THOMAS MCAULIFFE

Deceased - Lettered all four years in track and three years in basketball. He was a four-time state champion in the 400-meter race and a four-time state champion in the 800-meter race. He was also a top discus thrower consistently throwing between 140-150 yards and was the state champion in that event.
