Nasty weather and all, the Lowry High School made its way down Interstate 80 and to Reed High School in Sparks this past Saturday for the Northern 3A Trials.
Cold, wet and windy weather greeted the athletes, making it tough on everyone.
Despite the conditions, the Buckaroos came back home with a number of good finishes. Brent Kenison, Shane Gilliland and Ira Wadsworth tied first in the pole vault, each clearing 10 feet.
In addition, Kenison won the triple jump with s leap of 41-7.
Senior Timothy Patches notched a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 18-7.25 and Quade Altman was eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.71.
Nomar Aguirre turned in a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 45-10.5.
On the girls side, junior Kepa Hilbish continued her outstanding season, finishing fourth in the 100 meters in a time of 13.66 and fifth in the 200 meters at 28.86.
Freshman Ava Swensen placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.46 and was eighth in the 1,600 meters (5:53.54), while fellow freshman Alyla Thomas finished fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:47.56.
Kylee Wilkinson (84-7) and Angelica Leon (81-8) were sixth and ninth, respectfully in the discus and Amya Betes placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14-2. Tariana Weatherspoon placed ninth in the 100 meters (14.08) and Kaitlin Messmer placed 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 29.81.
The Northern Regional Championships start at 2 p.m., at Carson High School in Carson City.
The second day begins at 9 a.m.
The top four placers in each event from the Northern League and the top four placers in each event from the Southern Region meet automatically advance to the state meet.
