After the original season finale was postponed due to rain in Winnemucca, the Lowry High School baseball team traveled to Dayton on Wednesday, May 1, to take on the Dust Devils.
Despite an outstanding pitching performance from Angus Boyles, Lowry lost 4-2 to Dayton to end the season at 1-14 in the Northern 3A and 6-20 overall.
Boyles nearly went the distance, allowing six hits and four runs (none earned).
He struck out 13 and walked one.
Dayton scored a pair of runs in the first inning and held that same advantage until the seventh inning. Despite playing on the road, the Buckaroos were the home team.
Lowry looked to rally in the second inning, as Jake Bauman led off with a double was thrown out trying to extend the play to a triple.
Brayden Dennis and Bryce Niblack followed with singles but the rally fizzled.
The Dust Devils tacked on two important runs in the top of the seventh inning, as the Buckaroos rallied their final at bats of the year.
Boyles led off with a single and Gage Lange was walked. After a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third base, Txema Bengochea singled to score two runs.
However, the rally ended there, giving the win to Dayton.
