It was a few days later than expected but the Lowry High School softball team finished off a three-game sweep of Dayton, with a 13-1 win on Wednesday, May 1.
The game was scheduled to be played Friday, April 26, in Winnemucca, only to be postponed by rain and moved to Dayton.
Dayton scored its lone run of the day in the first inning, aided by a Lowry error.
The Lady Bucks quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning on the strength of a two-RBI single by Liliana Aguilar to score Natalya Guizar and Isabel Upton.
Maddison McClure added an RBI single in the second inning and Elisabeth George used a triple to score Cambria Tisue and Adalyn Entwistle to make the score 6-1.
McClure added a three-run home run in the third inning and Lowry closed out the game early with three runs in the fourth inning.
After allowing a leadoff walk, Guizar dominated in the circle, giving up one hit. She struck out four and walked three.
Entwistle paced the Lady Bucks with three hits and three runs scored. McClure added two hits and four RBI and fellow senior Savannah Stoker had two, three RBI and two runs scored. Crisslyn Rodriguez and George also finished with two hits.
Lowry 24, South Tahoe 4
The playoff format changed this year for the regional tournament with the top two seeds in the East and West advancing to the regional championships.
The No. 3 and 4 seeds had to crossover for a play-in game for the opportunity to move on to Spring Creek. Fernley automatically qualified after Wooster vacated the No. 4 spot.
Lowry traveled to South Tahoe on Friday and easily disposed of the Vikings 24-4, the No. 3 seed in the West.
The Lady Bucks led 6-4 after an inning of play and then scored the final 18 runs of the contest, including 12 in the fourth inning.
Lowry pounded out 21 hits and did not strikeout on the day. Rodriguez had a team-high four hits and three RBI.
Guizar was 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored.
Case also finished with three hits. Entwistle, Stoker, Tisue, George and Upton each had two hits.
The Northern 3A Regional Championship gets underway Thursday at Spring Creek High School.
Sparks and Fernley start the day at 9 a.m. with the winner playing Churchill County on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
Lowry and Elko meet at 11:15 a.m. with the winner playing North Valleys at 3:45 p.m.
The tournament continues with four games on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
