Lady Bucks rout Vikings in doubleheader sweep, knocked off by Panthers in 3A title rematch

After opening the season with six games on the road, the Lowry High School softball team made its home debut this past Friday and Saturday with new coach Megan Maga.

The Lady Bucks began, where they left off from 2023 in Mesquite at the state tournament. 

Lowry hosted North Valleys in a rematch of the 2023 title game. 

The two teams were scheduled to play a week before in Reno, but a snow storm postponed the match-up.

Lowry grabbed a early 1-0 lead, but North Valleys used two big innings to win 11-1 in six innings.

Lowry was in control for the first four innings of play, as Natayla Guizar gave the Lady Bucks a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI-single that scored Savannah Stoker.

Stoker had four strikeouts through thew first four innings, as Lowry led 1-0 in the pitcher duel. 

The Panthers broke through with three straight singles in the top of the fifth inning, aided by three Buckaroo errors to go in front 5-1.

The North Valleys onslaught continued, scoring six more runs in the sixth inning.

Stoker suffered the loss allowing 11 runs (four earned) on 12 hits. She struck out six and walked three. Lowry committed seven errors.

Maddison McClure, Guizar and Stoker had the hits for the Lady Bucks.

Lowry was back on the field Saturday morning for a doubleheader and swept the Vikings 18-3 and 15-0 to improve to 6-3.

South Tahoe jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, with those two runs scoring on an error. Lowry quickly got the lead back in the bottom of the first, as Bailey Peterson cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to score Adalyn Entwistle, Stoker and Guizar. McClure added a RBI later in the inning and Isabel Upton singled home the fifth run of the inning.

Stoker gave Lowry a 7-2 lead in the second inning, with a two-run home run.

That blast to centerfield tied her with former Buckaroo Sydney Connors for the school and 3A career home run record with 43. 

Crisslyn Rodriguez closed out the frame with a RBI-single to score Elisabeth George.

Guizar helped herself out in the circle, as she hits a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning, as Lowry scored 10 runs in the third inning to win by the mercy rule after three innings of play.

Guizar picked up the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. She struck out three and walked two.

Lowry pounded out 15 hits, with Peterson leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance and five RBI and three runs scored. Rodriguez was 3-for-3, with a pair of runs batted in. Guizar and McClure each had two hits.

The nightcap was much of the same, as Lowry scored eight runs in the first inning, beginning with a two-run home run from Stoker to break the school and 3A record with 44 home runs. 

McClure and Guizar each had two-RBI base hits.

The Ladu Bucks tacked on seven more runs in the second inning to lead 15-0 and won by that same score, batting in just two innings.

Entwistle collected two hits and scored three runs, with Stoker picking up a pair of hits and three RBI.

Guizar posted a 3-for-3 performance with three RBI and three runs scored and Rodriguez finished with two hits and two RBI. Cambria Tisue, Hayden Case, McClure and Peterson each had one hit.

George collected the win in the circle, allowing just one hit in three innings. She struck out three.

Lowry begins Northern 3A East play at Elko, with a doubleheader on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
