Sophomore Elisabeth George was one out away from a no-hitter in her outing at Sparks this past Friday afternoon, when the Railroaders got their first hit.
She still helped the Lowry High School softball team to a 19-0 win in crossover play.
The Lady Bucks improved to 4-2. George struck out four and walked one in the three-inning victory cut short by the mercy run-rule.
Lowry plated 10 runs in the opening inning, as Bailey Peterson had an RBI-single and Cambria Tisue and Haden Case plated two runs each with their doubles.
Savannah Stoker had four RBI in the first inning, beginning with a triple. The senior closed out the frame with a three-run home run.
That moved Stoker home runs away from the all-time Nevada record and she is now one behind Sydney Connors, who holds the school record for home runs at 43.
Stoker and Peterson each drove in a pair of runs in the sixth inning, as Lowry increased its lead to 16-0.
The Lady Bucks pounded out 11 hits, including a 3-for-3 performance by Stoker with six RBI.
Maddison McClure added a pair of hits and Case had one hit, scored three times and knocked in four runs.
Adalyn Entwistle, Tisue, Peterson, Liliana Aguilar and Isabel Upton each had one hit.
Lowry’s weekend was cut short, as the field at North Valleys still had snow on it from, he winter storm that hit the area.
That doubleheader will be rescheduled for April 6 in Reno.
However, the two teams will meet Friday at 1 p.m. in Winnemucca in a rematch of the Northern 3A Regional Championship and state championship.
Lowry was the only team to beat North Valleys last year.
