While most spring sports teams in northern Nevada were finding cover due to a winter storm, the Lowry High School swim team was inside at Alf Sorenson Pool in Reno top open its season on Friday, March 1.
Lowry picked up duals wins over Wooster, as the boys cruised to a 75-23 win and the girls team recorded a 96-90 victory.
On the boys side, Tanner Hatch led the way in two events, winning the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 42.96 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke at 1:10.14.

Garrett Jensen won the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the watch at 1:28.25 and he was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle at 28.88.
Steven Camacho won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:28.99 and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:09.52.
Kelsen Sisley finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 36.23 and was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:26.78.
The 200-yard medley relay of Hatch, Camacho, Jensen and Sisley won with a time of 2:18.82 and the foursome won the 200-yard relay at 2:10.28.
On the girls side, Tea Bengoa won a pair of events for the Buckaroos.
She posted a time of 2:59.04 in the 200-yard individual medley and 1:23.80 in the 100-yard backstroke to win by four seconds.
Lizzie Harmon claimed the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:13.64 and she was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:34.17).
Makenna Toland earned a pair of runner-up finishes — stopping the watch at 3:03.81 in the 200-yard individual medley and 1:15.74 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Mia Martinez placed second in the 50-yard freestyle at 41.54, as Wooster’s Lily Vieyra won at 41.19. Martinez added a fifth-place outing in the 100-yard backstroke (1:59.36).
Evie Morgan finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:52.86 and was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:28.02). Maygen Robinson placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:26.01) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:53.60).
Alora McClure placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (53.58).
The 200-yard medley relay of Toland, Morgan, Bengoa and Robinson won with a time of 2:36.86 to beat Wooster by eight seconds.
Harmon, Morgan, Toland and Bengoa were first in the 400-yard relay at 5:49.21. The 200-yard relay of Martinez, McClure, Robinson and Harmon were second at 2:45.33.
Lowry was off this past weekend and travel to Carson City on Saturday for the Aqua 5.
