Bengochea earns second-team Northern 3A East honors; named to honorable mention all North

Lowry High School sophomore Txema Bengochea was named to the Northern 3A East second team and Northern 3A honorable mention squad.

Lowry High School sophomore Txema Bengochea was named to Northern 3A East second team at shortstop and an honorable mention choice in the Northern 3A for his play this year.

In 25 games this season, Bengochea hit .279, with 19 hits, 12 runs scored, three RBI and a double.

Churchill County’s Baylor Sandberg and Riley Horn were named the Northern 3A East and Northern 3A Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

The Northern 3A first team included Ty Francis (catcher Dayton), Adam Roumanos first base Elko), PJ Zubiria (second base Spring Creek), Logan Lopez (shortstop Spring Creek), James Kelsey (outfield Churchill County), Riley McCullar (outfield Fernley), Derrick Jacobo Elko), Brady Alves (DH Churchill County), Wyatt Sandoval Utility Spring Creek), Peyton Aranguena (pitcher Elko), Bryce Adams (pitcher Churchill County) and Caleb Culp (pitcher Spring Creek). 

Joining Bengochea on the Northern 3A East second team was Carter Paul (Spring Creek), Chase Carnahan (Churchill County), Duke Evans (Dayton), Aiden Chappell (Fernley), Norman House (Spring Creek), Coy Jones (Elko), Nathaniel Zackery (Churchill County), Ethan DeFevre (Spring Creek), Joey Machado (Fernley), Dakota Higday (Dayton), Dillon Payne (Spring Creek), Toren Duke (Elko) and Anthony Juarez (Churchill County).

Lowry’s Connor Peterson at catcher, Angus Boyles (outfield) and Jake Bauman (utility) were named to the Northern 3A honorable mention team.

Peterson batted .324 in 24 games to go with 20 hits, 10 runs and three RBI. Boyles batted .326 with 15 hits and eight runs scored and Bauman hit .340 with 18 hits, 11 RBI and six runs scored. 

Baylor Sandberg, Caleb Culp, Logan Lopez and Ty Francis were names to the all-state first team and Bryce Adams, Derrick Jacobo and Brady Alves were selected to the all-state second team.
