At their regular meeting on May 21, the Winnemucca City Council (with all members present):
• Proclaimed May 2024 as Historic Preservation Month to celebrate historic preservation and archeology within the State of Nevada.
• Approved a variance request to reduce the side yard setback from 5 feet to 3 feet and increase the allowed height of an accessory structure to 20 feet for a property on National Ave.
• Approved a street closure request on Melarkey Street from Winnemucca Blvd to Fourth Street on an “as needed” basis for the Tri-County Market to handle an overflow of vendors in the Winner’s Hotel parking lot on select Fridays from June through October.
• Approved a service agreement with Armstrong Consultants in the amount of $56,020 to provide professional services for the bidding, construction, and the closeout phase of the Airport Signage Project.
• Approved the fiscal year 2024-25 budget proposal and amendments during a public hearing.
• Approved the fiscal year 2024-25 insurance renewal proposal as a part of a cost share agreement with Humboldt County.
• According to City officials, Anthem will provide administrative services with no cost increase over the current year cost and stop loss coverages with increases over the current year costs for the specific stop loss of 28.5% and the aggregate stop loss of 9.98%.
Kansas City Life will provide dental, vision, and life insurance with no cost increase over the current year costs for all City employees.
• Approved a proposal to maintain the fiscal year 2024-25 premiums for the City self-funded health insurance plan at the same levels as the current year premiums.
• Reviewed tentative design plans for the new aquatic center and Knit Studios provided an overview of the interior finishes that had been reviewed by the Aquatics Center Committee. According to City Manager Alicia Heiser.
There were minimal comments from the Committee regarding the interior designs but the Committee did voice concern about mildew being seen on the white walls like at the existing pool, but the plan is to have a proper ventilation system to alleviate the concerns.
