Nevaeh Serna competes in the 100-meter breaststroke in Carson City

The Battle Mountain NNA swim team began its long course season for the summer at the 2024 Intermountain Classic LC Swim Meet in Carson City from May 24-26. 

There were a lot of time improvements and coach Hall was pleased with the first meet of the summer season. Beckett and Barrett Buffington competed in their first long-course meet.

Barrett Buffington turned in a fifth-place finish in the boys 10 and under 200-meter freestyle with a time of 3 minutes, 22.63 seconds. 

He added a seventh-place outing in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:52.56 and was 10th in the 50-meter freestyle.

He also placed seventh in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:33.82 and was eighth in both the 50-meter backstroke (51.62) and the 50-meter butterfly (1:01.84). 


Barrett Buffington competes in the breaststroke.

Buffington finished 10th in the 50-meter freestyle at 42.72 and was 12th in the 50-meter butterfly (1:04.82).

Beckett Buffington also competed in the 10 and under division and was 11th in the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 5:44.22 and was 19th in both the 50-meter freestyle (1:09.13) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:09.13).

Weston Reiva placed fifth in a pair of events for his best finishes of the weekend in the boys 11-12 division. 

He chopped of an incredible 37.31 seconds in the 200-meter individual medley to finish with a time of 3:39.40.

He stopped the clock at 6:20.88 in the 400-meter freestyle and placed sixth in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:57.22. Reiva took off more than seven seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke at 56.0 to finish eighth and was 12th in the 50-meter freestyle (37.11).

He improved by more than three seconds in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing eighth in a time of 1:39.89 and Reiva also finished eighth in the 50-meter butterfly (46.61).

The young swimmer placed ninth in the 100-meter freestyle (1:25.03) and 10th in the 50-meter backstroke (46.35).

Nevaeh Serna won five events on the weekend in the girls 11-12-year-old division. She led the way in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:31.46 and then improved by more than seven seconds in both the 200-meter individual medley (2:52.43) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:45.20) to win both events.

She won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:18.68 and the 50-meter backstroke (35.94), improving her times in both events. 

She placed fourth in the 100-meter freestyle (1:13.64), fifth in the 50-meter butterfly (37.93) and 10th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:44.42), improving her time by 4.39 seconds. 

Serna finished fourth in the 50-meter freestyle (32.54) and fifth in the 100-meter butterfly (1:27.70).
