Great Basin College (GBC) and Renown Health have announced a collaborative effort to introduce a pioneering Respiratory Therapy training program aimed at bolstering the rural healthcare workforce in northern Nevada. This initiative, made possible by the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust and the Health Resources and Services Administration, represents a significant milestone in healthcare education for the region.
The accelerated 18-month program will culminate in an Associate of Applied Science in Cardio-Respiratory Care Science degree. It will employ cutting-edge training equipment and provide students with hands-on, real-world experience. The program is set to commence in Spring 2025, with classes being offered at GBC's Elko and Winnemucca campuses, as well as at Renown Health in Reno.
Applications for the program are now open and will be accepted until October 31, 2024. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the program page on GBC's website for detailed information on prerequisites and the application process.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for respiratory therapists is projected to grow by 13% by 2032. This program aims to address this rising demand and advance healthcare services in northern Nevada's rural communities.
