meanwhile back at the Ranch

Oh Pooh!

I watched a movie tonight that never fails to make me both laugh and cry. Christopher Robin.

It came out in 2018, so if I’m about to spoil it for you, you’ve had your shot to see it for six years.

It’s the fictional tale of a grown, very serious post-war Christopher Robin who has lost the joy in his life. He has a beautiful wife and adoring daughter, but he has let his adult life and work consume him.

One day, his old friend Winnie the Pooh comes looking for him, and whilst taking Pooh home to the Hundred Acre Wood he briefly rediscovers his essence and his joy.

Another few twists and turns including an unexpected office visit from his wife, daughter and childhood friends finally convince him about what is most important in life.

For a little movie with talking stuffed animals, Christopher Robin is surprisingly poignant.

It reminds me that no matter our circumstances, we need to find time and space for joy and magic in our lives.

Patrice and I work really hard at the ranch, and we also do our best to carve out a little time for ourselves.

Whether it’s a night or two up at our cabin on the mountain, or just dinner and a movie in town, we try to find moments that help us smile and relax.

Sometimes, taking that time or spending a little money unnecessarily seems a big hill to climb, but I’m certain that it’s as necessary as clean air to breathe and fresh water to drink.

So folks, take it from me, and Christopher Robin. Make the effort to find your joy and a little magic. It’s what makes life worth living.
