State lawmakers approved about $1.3 million of funds for educator raises at two rural school districts.
Mineral and Pershing counties were the final two school districts to apply for a share of the $250 million matching fund that was meant to incentivize raises for district educators and was created by Democratic state lawmakers.
An interim legislative committee voted to approve about $552,000 for Mineral County School District and about $762,000 for Pershing County School District.
The SB231 funds were a source of contention last year between the Clark County School District, lawmakers and teachers during the Clark County Education Association’s contract negotiations.
As Nevada’s largest school district, Clark County received the lion’s share of the funds — more than $173 million.
The district and the teachers union reached an agreement in December, shortly after the legislative committee denied the district’s initial application for the funding.
