McDermitt boys come up short in road games to Jackpot, Wells

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team battled to the end in its two road games, but came away with two close losses  to drop to 2-15 overall and 1-5 in the 1A East.

McDermitt was in Jackpot on Friday and lost 47-46 and dropped a six-point contest to Wells on Saturday — 38-32.


Jackpot 47, McDermitt 46

In the first meeting this year in McDermitt, the Bulldogs beat the Jaguars 47-45 for its lone league win. 

Jackpot grabbed a 13-9 lead after eight minutes of play. However, the Bulldogs took control and the lead in the second and third quarters.

McDermitt used a 12-7 run in the second quarter to hold a 21-20 advantage at halftime and extended the lead to four points at the start of the fourth quarter.

 The Jaguars overcame the deficit and outscored the Bulldogs 13-9 to claim the one-point win.

Shandon Camas posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds to go with two steals and two blocks. 

Warrick Crutcher added seven points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Eli Northrup and AJ Farmer each scored six points and Chris Scott and Dylan Palmer netted two points apiece.


Wells 38, McDermitt 32

McDermitt found itself in a nailbiter in Wells, which included a 16-15 Bulldogs advantage at halftime. 

The back-and-forth battle continued into the second half, with Wells tying the game at 25 going into the fourth quarter.

The Leopards pulled away in the final eight minutes with a 13-7 run to secure the six-point win.

Camas posted another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds and Palmer, a freshman, added 10 points and two rebounds. Eli Northup scored four points, Scott three and Josh Northrup and Farmer two each.

McDermitt travels to Carlin for a make-up game  on Wednesday that was postponed earlier in the year due to weather and road conditions.

McDermitt hosts Owyhee on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Carlin on Friday at 5 p.m.
