BMHS boys split with Oasis Academy, Yerington

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team picked up a split of two Northern 2A games, making a return trip to its home floor.

Battle Mountain got off to a rough start against Oasis Academy on Friday night, as the Bighorns led throughout the first half.

Trailing 26-18 early in the third quarter, the Longhorns used a 13-2 run to close out the quarter, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Battle Mountain the lead for good.

Geovanni Ruvalcaba knocked down a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter to pus the lead to 34-28 and Battle Mountain hung on from there.

Freshmen Ruvalcaba and Adan Nevarez paced the Longhorns with 12 and 11 points, respectively. 

Zayne Hall and Brodie Smith each scored six points, Lewis Strong five, Chase Baum four, Blake Stuart two and Daniel Andrade one.  

Battle Mountain was back home on Saturday afternoon and Yerington completed the season seep with a 63-55 win.

Ruvalcaba and Smith were in double figures, as the freshmen scored 14 and 11 points, respectively. Lutz netted nine points, Hall seven, Nevarez four, Strong and Stuart three each, Baum two and Andrade one.

Battle Mountain travels to North Tahoe on Wednesday for a make-up game and is back on the road to Lovelock on Friday and Coral Academy on Saturday.
