The Pershing County High School wrestling team continues to thrive. Last weekend, over a dozen athletes competed in the Sparks Invitational tournament.
Their combined efforts helped Pershing finish fourth out of 19 teams.
The top five teams were Wooster (174), Spanish Springs (154), Galena (140), Pershing County (120) and Fernley (106).
Lovelock's wrestlers included Justin Carruth (132 pounds), Ashton Jimenez (132), Jeffrey Elerick (138), Braxson Bird (144), Angelo Gibson (144), Israel Knight (144), Cade Liebsack (150), Howard Mitchell (157), Wyatt Hughes (165), Jake Trowbridge (190), Logan Hunt (215) and Zander Bishop (285). Magdalena Ramirez competed with the girls (138).
"We were happy with the effort but were hoping more would stay in consolation a little bit longer," said coach Mike Brooks.
Six wrestlers made the semifinals. Four made it to the finals. Jeffrey Elerick and Israel Knight placed first in their respective weight classes.
Wyatt Hughes and Jake Trowbridge placed second. Angelo Gibson, Cade Liebsack and Magdalena Ramirez finished fourth.

"Cade had his strongest showing yet. Jake was an unseeded wrestler, qualified for the championship match and had a good tournament. Wyatt and Angelo also had strong tournaments," said Brooks.
Elerick received a bye in the first round and won his other four matches by fall.
The tournament named him the outstanding middle weight wrestler. Israel Knight received a bye in the first round, won three matches by fall and one by decision.
Hughes won round one, the quarterfinal and semifinal by fall.
A Coral Academy wrestler won the first-place match against Hughes by major decision (12-4). Jake Trowbridge won round one, the quarterfinal and semifinal by fall. A Wooster wrestler won the first-place match by fall.
The Mustangs compete in the Kiwanis Invitational this weekend at Spring Creek High School.
