The Lowry High School wrestling team split up its team this past weekend, sending a group to Idaho for the Rollie Lane Invitational and another to Sparks for the Sparks Invitational.
The Rollie Lane Invitational is one of the best tournaments in the west featuring 90 teams for a number of different states.
Luke Fentress at 182 pounds advanced to the consolation sixth round on the weekend, reaching the championship quarterfinals with an 8-5 win over Mountain View’s Greysen Dormier and a 6-1 win over Gabe Grassel of Couer D’Alene.
Fentress lost in the semifinals by an 8-0 decision and in the consolation round by a 4-0 decision to Bayden Beard of Central Valley Washington.
Jhett Harber (170) advanced to the consolation fourth round after opening with a pin of William Lopez of American Falls. Harber dropped a 10-5 decision in his next match but rallied to beat Joseph Welker od Centennial by pin and a 5-1 win over Post Falls’ Jason Stone.
Chris Gildone reached the consolation third round at 145 pounds. Gildone had to wrestle in the preliminary round and beat Nathan Marston of Homedale 10-0.
Gildone lost in the first round but came back to collect two wins in the consolation bracket.
Pete Bengochea (98), Kruz Gomez (113), Marcas Ricci (126), Jayden Howard (132), Bradyn Snyder (138), Billy DeLong (152), TJ Mattson (195) and Longan Jonas (220) also wrestled for the Buckaroos.
Minico won the team title with 190 points and Fruitland was second at 189.5.
Sparks Invitational
Another group of wrestlers made their way to the Sparks Invitational and five grapplers placed in the top five.
Edward Jones picked up a runner-up finish at 106 pounds, with Landon Esquivel placing third at 138 pounds. Randy Peterson (157) and Jake Bauman (190) each finished fourth and Urijah Davis was fifth at 144 pounds.
The season is quickly coming to an end, as Lowry travels to Spring Creek this weekend for the Kiwanis Invitational.
