The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team improved to 5-2 in the Northern 2A with two impressive wins over Silver Stage (71-23) and Sierra Lutheran (79-31) this past weekend at home.
In the victory over Silver Stage on Friday night, the Longhorns had four players score in double figures, led by Zayne Hall with 15.
The junior added two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Blake Stuart added 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Geovanni Ruvalcaba added 12 points as well to go with six assists and three steals.
Fellow freshman Brodie Smith netted 11 points, along with six steals, two rebounds and an assist.
Freshman Adan Nevarez added eight points, four rebounds and three steals and Chase Lutz and Lewis Strong each had four points. Chase Baum scored three.
It was much of the same story on Saturday, as Battle Mountain hosted Sierra Lutheran.
The Falcons are playing in the 2A for the first time since moving up from the 1A.
Ten players scored for Battle Mountain, with Stuart leading the way with 20 points, three rebounds and three assists. Ruvalcaba contributed 16 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals. Nevarez scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Smith netted eight points, three rebounds and three assists, Daniel Andrade had six points, Baum five, Hall and Strong four each, Luis Guizar three and Lutz two. Eric Fernandez had five rebounds.
Battle Mountain came out of Christmas break on Wednesday, Jan. 3, with a road trip to West Wendover.
After a close first quarter, the Wolverines used a 27-11 run in the second quarter and went on to win 64-50.
The Longhorns outscored the Wolverines 27-24 in the second half but the second quarter was the difference.
Ruvalcaba and Hall paced Battle Mountain with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Smith and Stuart each scored six points, Strong five, Nevarez four and Lutz two.
Battle Mountain travels to Incline on Friday and North Tahoe on Saturday.
