On Friday, Dec. 22, the Pershing County High School girls basketball team knocked off West Wendover with a final score of 49-27.
The Mustangs extended their winning streak to 11-0 overall, and 4-0 in the Northern 2A — not a bad way to head into winter break.
“The road trip to West Wendover is never easy. Our first half was a struggle as we couldn’t get much going in our direction,” said coach Lee Houston.
The first quarter ended with Wolverines up by one point at 9-8). At the half, the Mustangs were ahead by only three points (17-14). The game was up for grabs.
“However, in the second half we got our legs under us, started playing our game and were able to pull away. The girls pushed through adversity on the road, which is important,” Houston added.
Anna Happy scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half, leading the Mustang’s attack.
Raegan Burrows added ten points. Kyra Cerini had eight points and Taylor Garland had six.
Riley Harvey takes a shot against Sierra Lutheran.

It was the Lovelock’s fourth league win of the season. So far, they’ve beat SLHS (56-18), Incline (60-14), Battle Mountain (50-34) and the Wolverines.
On Wednesday, Jan. 3, Pershing County started the new year with a road trip to Yerington.
Results were not available at press time. On Friday, they host North Tahoe, a 2A powerhouse (5-0). The game starts at 6 p.m.
“We were happy to get the two wins (Battle Mountain and West Wendover) going into Christmas break. It will be a much-needed break for the players and coaches. We will recharge our batteries and get ready for the rest of the season,” said Houston.
