Two teams with heart played their best at West Wendover High School on Friday, Dec. 22.
Pershing County went up against the West Wendover Wolverines (4-0). Wendover had a rough start at the preseason tournaments but has fought back to a five-game winning streak.
The final score was 71-33, with the Mustangs trailing.
The Mustangs stand at 2-9 overall and 1-3 in the 2A Northern league.
Coach Jesse Canchola hopes the winter break practice sessions push the Mustangs forward. They’ve shown they’re capable of winning.
They become a better team with each game, win or lose. Their town believes in them.
The Mustangs traveled to Yerington (3-1) on Jan. 3 for another league matchup. The Lions are third in the 2A, behind Incline (5-0) and Wendover. Results were not available at press time.
Up next, Lovelock hosts North Tahoe (Jan. 5) and Oasis Academy (Jan. 9). Both teams have had mixed results this season.
North Tahoe is 3-2 in the league. Oasis is 1-3. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
