Lowry girls get past South Tahoe

After enjoying its first home game of the season, the Lowry High School girls basketball team was back on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 20, for a non-conference meeting with South Tahoe.

The Lady Bucks improved to 9-2 on the season, using a 21-8 run in the fourth quarter to beat the Vikings 62-38.

Due to the scheduling change this season, the crossover game doesn’t count toward the playoff standings.

Lowry jumped out to a 12-2 advantage in the first quarter but South Tahoe got hot from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers in the first half to trail 36-21 at the break.

The Lady Bucks’ offense found it tough sledding out of halftime, with the Vikings outscoring them 9-6 to cut the deficit to 41-30 with eight minutes to play.

Lowry ended any thoughts of an upset, with a quick start in the fourth quarter, capping the game off with a 21-9 run.

Savannah Stoker and Britain Backus paced Lowry with 26 and 13 points, respectively.

Kholle Shorey added nine points, Bryce Brinkerhoff eight and Autum Sanchez and Maura Braatz two each.

Lowry will get a look at some out-of-state coemption this week in Boise for a three-day tournament.

Lowry is scheduled to play Timberline on Thursday at 8 p.m., Eagle on Friday at 4:45 p.m. and Meridian on Saturday at 11:45 a.m.

The Lady Bucks start Northern 3A Eat play on Jan. 5-6 at home against Elko and Spring Creek, respectively.
