Spring season for Nevada High School Rodeo Association starts in Pahrump


The second half of the Nevada High School Rodeo Association got back rolling on Feb. 16-17 in Pahrump.

Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong came back home with a pair of average victories in boys cutting and saddle bronc. 

DeLong scored 143 points, placing second in the first performance with 70 points and winning the final performance with 73 points.

He had rides of 70 points in each performance of saddle bronc, winning both performances.

Battle Mountain’s Flint Schacht led the way in bull riding with his 76-point performance in the first go-around. 

Humboldt County’s Cooper Hill placed sixth in boys cutting and was sixth in tie-down roping. Logan Marshall was 15th in tie-down roping.

Humboldt County’s Emma Garijo won both performances of pole bending to claim the average title at 42.591 seconds.

Garijo finished fourth in the barrel racing average at 25.237 seconds and was fourth in the second performance at 17.539.

She placed sixth in the breakaway roping average, despite missing a calf in the first go-around. 

She came back to be the runner-up in the second performance with a time of 3.090.

Matti DeLong placed eighth in barrel racing, which included a fourth-place out in in the first performance at 17.684. Brynn Barto placed 15th in barrel racing.

DeLong was fourth in the breakaway roping average, aided by winning the first performance in a time of 2.900 seconds.

She missed her calf in the second go-around. She continued her good weekend, with a third-place outing in goat tying at 21.740. Barto was 10th in goat tying.

Leigh Johnson placed eighth in pole bending and DeLong was 19th.

Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman won the first performance of barrel racing in a time of 17.615 and was second in the average.

Battle Mountain’s Amelia Lancaster notched a second-place finish in the breakaway roping average at 12,100 and she won the second performance at 2,77, the quickest time of the weekend. 

Jorja Mashburn placed 11th in breakaway roping.

Lancaster finished sixth in goat tying, which included winning the second performance in a time of 9.270. 

She didn’t have a time in the first performance. Mashburn was 13th in goat tying.

Holman collected a fifth-place finish in pole bending and Lancaster was 11th.

Amelia Lancaster and Eli Lancaster placed second in team roping.


Junior High School

Humboldt County’s Louise DeLong swept the top two spots in the junior high barrel racing average and Macy Marvel was seventh. Battle Mountain’s Landry Meiman placed ninth in barrel racing and Humboldt County’s Taylor Hill was 11th.

Humboldt County’s Bryce Fears and Battle Mountain’s Logan Lancaster were fifth and seventh in boys breakaway roping and Humboldt County’s Ben Marvel was fourth in boys goat tying. Fears finished eighth in goat tying and Jace Barto and Chance Thomas were 14th and 16th, respectively.

Marvel and Fears were second and third in chute dogging and Barto was 11th. 

Byrd and DeLong claimed the top two spots in breakaway roping and Hill and Byrd were seventh and ninth, respectively in goat tying. Meiman was fifth for Battle Mountain.

Ben Marvel claimed the victory in saddle bronc and Byrd won the pole bending average, Meiman placed sixth and Marvel and DeLong were seventh and 10th.

The duo of Taylor Hill and White Pine’s Sawyer Bliss won the ribbon roping average, with Louise DeLong and Eureka’s Henry Buchanan were third. Logan Lancaster and Elko’s Pete Mori led the way in team roping.
