Pershing County’s wrestlers have jettisoned to the top three of the Northern 2A league.
Their performances at the duals showcased their competitive spirits.
On Tuesday they competed in Yerington. Saturday they dualed in Battle Mountain.
“In Yerington we went 3-1 as a team, losing a close one to Yerington. In Battle Mountain we went 3-1 also, losing to the Longhorns,” said coach Mike Brooks. “Collectively, we had wins over Incline, Coral Academy, Excel Christian, Wells, Owyhee and Eureka.”
Jeffrey Elerick was undefeated at duals and goes into zone as top seed. Wyatt Hughes, Angelo Gibson, Israel Knight and Jake Trowbridge enter as number two seeds in their respective weight classes.
Cade Liebsack landed four dual wins. Justin Carruth had three.
Meanwhile, freshman wrestler Magdalena Ramirez competed in the girl’s regional tournament at Reed High School. She placed fifth so will not be competing at State this year.
Ramirez plans to work hard this summer and take advantage of camps or extra practices whenever available. She’s determined to make it to State in 2025.
“I had a great season with my wrestling teammates and coaches,” she said. “I’m happy how far I’ve come.”
This Saturday, Feb. 10, Pershing County hosts the Northern 2A Regional tournament at the high school. The top four in each weight class will compete at state.
