Lady Longhorns fall to Wolverines, Falcons beat Nighthawks in 2A play

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team picked up one win in three games in Northern 2A play last week.

Battle Mountain hosted West Wendover on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and lost 38-32 to the Wolverines. The Lady Longhorns made their final road trip of the season last weekend and routed Silver Stage 47-6.

Battle Mountain moved over to Carson City on Saturday and lost 33-30 to Sierra Lutheran.

Battle Mountain is 14-12 overall and 6-10 in the Northern 2A.


West Wendover 38, Battle Mountain 32

It took a while for both teams to find their way on offense with nine combined points in the first quarter. Battle Mountain did not post it first points until a bucket by Lisette Haney with 2:58 left to go.

The Wolverines led 7-4 after the first basket of the second quarter, when the Lady Longhorns went on an 8-3 run after two baskets by Haney and a layup from Eimilie Johnson. Battle Mountain led 15-12 at halftime.

Stevlana Martinez started the third quarter with a steal and layup to push the advantage to 17-12, only to see the Wolverines answer with a 10-0 run to go in front 22-17.

West Wendover led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Haney and Noel Hill each scored eight points, with Haney adding two steals. Johnson contributed six points and three rebounds.

Martinez had four points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Paitynn Johns had three points, two rebounds, one assists and one block. Lindsey Bleak netted two points and Jenna Chopp had one point and eight rebounds.


Battle Mountain 47, Silver Stage 6

Battle Mountain found itself in Silver Springs on Friday night and had little trouble with the Nighthawks.

Johnson (11), Bleak (9) and Hill and Chopp eight each outscored Silver Stage by themselves. Martinez added six points, seven rebounds and two assists and Haney finished with four points and six steals. Heidy Amezcua finished with one point.  


Sierra Lutheran 33, Battle Mountain 30

Battle Mountain ended the road trip in Carson City, needing a win to help its playoff chances. The Falcons dashed those hopes with a three-point win.

Martinez had a team-high eight points, four rebounds and two steals. Chopp added seven points, there blocks and three rebounds and Haney, Hill and Johnson scored four points apiece. Amezcua had two points and Bleak one.

Battle Mountain ends the season at home against Incline on Friday at 6 p.m. and North Tahoe on Saturday at 2 p.m. It is Winterfest and senior day as well.
