The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team is currently looking at the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the upcoming Northern 2A Regional Championships.
Battle Mountain was busy last week with three games, beginning at home on Tuesday, Jan. 30, against league-leading West Wendover. The Wolverines, who are 16-0 in league play, held on for a 57-49 win.
The Longhorns bounced back this past weekend with a 69-38 win at Silver Stage on Friday and Sierra Lutheran 82-59 on Saturday.
Battle Mountain is fourth in the Northern 2A at 10-6 and 15-10 overall. North Tahoe is fifth at 9-6 but beat Battle Mountain earlier in the season.
The two teams conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon. It’s likely the two teams could meet in the playoffs.

West Wendover 57, Battle Mountain 49
It was a 3-point party in the first eight minutes of play, as Battle Mountain hosted West Wendover on Jan. 30. The two teams came out hot and combined for 36 points in the first quarter.
The action settled down after that, as the Wolverines led 30-24 at halftime.
A 3-pointer by Blake Stuart and a bucket from Adan Nevarez closed the gap to 32-28 in the third quarter, when the Wolverines went on 12-1 run, before Geovanni Ruvalcaba nailed a 3-pointer to make the score 46-32.
After trailing by 15 points in the fourth quarter, Battle Mountain closed the deficit to 53-45 but could get no closer.
Ruvalcaba led all scorers with 27 points to go with four assists and two rebounds.
Nevarez added eight points, five rebounds and two assists and Brodie Smith finished with seven points, seven rebounds and two assists. Stuart scored six points and Chase Lutz made a free throw.
Battle Mountain 69, Silver Stage 38
Battle Mountain started on fire with a 27-7 run in the first quarter and cruised to the victory from there. The Longhorns led 59-26 after three quarters of play.
Eleven different players scored in the win, led by Stuart with 19 points. Ruvalcaba added nine, Smith eight, Luis Guizar six, Nevarez five, Joaquin Cunanan and Lewis Strong six each and Daniel Andrade, Angel Guadarrama and Lutz two each.
Battle Mountain 82, Sierra Lutheran 59
Battle Mountain scored a season-high 82 points in Carson City on Saturday and led the Falcons 40-24 at halftime. The Longhorns added to their lead with 25 points in the third quarter.
Ruvalcaba paced Battle Mountain with 27 points and Nevarez and Stuart joined him in double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Smith added nine points, Andrade seven, Eric Fernandez six, Lutz three and Strong two.
It’s Winterfest week for Battle Mountain and they host Incline on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and North Tahoe on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
