The Batlle Mountain High School wrestling team made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the annual Cody Louk Invitational at the Winnemucca Event Center.
Liam Bundrock brought back the 138-pound title and Wyatt Madalena was the runner-up at 157 pounds.
Bundrock was on the mat for under 56 seconds in his first two bouts that he won by pin over Wells and Spanish Springs wrestlers.
The senior advanced to the semifinals on Friday night with a 10-1 win over Springs Creek’s Jaxson Taylor.

On Saturday morning, Bundrock pinned Lowry’s Odyn Santos in the semifinal and won his title with a pin over Hug’s Sergio Olivera.
Madalena reached the final at 157 pounds but could not continue in the match against Pershing County’s Angelo Gibson. In his previous matches, after a first-round bye, Madalena won two matches by technical fall and another by pin.
Finn Bundrock (113), Kaycen Stewart (120), James Spealman (144) and Leo Mathias (285) all placed fourth.
Bundrock went 3-2 on the weekend, reaching the championship semifinals at 113 pounds.
Stewart had to fight back through the consolation after a quarterfinal loss and won four matches. He lost the third-place match 12-9 to Spanish Springs’ Sawyer Evans.
Spealman was one of the busier wrestlers with seven matches, going 5-2. He also lost in the quarterfinal but bounced back with three wins.
Mathias dropped his opening match of the tournament but rallied for four straight wins by pin.

Logan Brizzee collected two wins at 175 pounds, as did Donovan Gilbert at 106 pounds.
Battle Mountain was the top 2A finisher in fifth with 155 points. Lowry eon its own tournament in dominating fashion with 291.5 points, with Carson second. Spanish Springs (174.5) and Spring Creek (165.5) were third and fourth, respectfully.
Battle Mountain traveled to Ely on Tuesday for the White Pine Invitational and results were not available at press time.
Battle Mountain will be in Twin Falls, Idaho, this weekend for the Wiley Dobbs Invitational.
The 2024 calendar year concludes on Dec. 27-28 at the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno.
