RENO —The Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) is proud to announce the recipients of its 2024 awards, recognizing outstanding educators, staff, and supporters who have made a lasting impact on public education in Nevada.


Executive Director Award:

Joann Capurro, Washoe County School District

Joann Capurro, Print and Mailroom Manager for the Washoe County School District, has been honored with the Executive Director Award for her extraordinary contributions to NASB. Joann and her team have been instrumental in producing high-quality materials, from conference programs to nomination packets, showcasing a steadfast dedication to supporting educators and students alike. Her passion for service and excellence truly embodies the spirit of NASB’s mission.


School Administrator of the Year:

Marissa Rasavong, Clark County School District

Principal Marissa Rasavong of Aggie Roberts  Elementary School is recognized for her transformative leadership. Since taking the helm in 2020, she has prioritized social-emotional well-being, academic growth, and innovative strategies that earned her school the prestigious Diamond Award from the Nevada MTSS Recognition System. Her dedication continues to inspire students, staff, and families.

Board Administrative Assistant of the Year:

Margaret Heim, Lyon County School District

Margaret Heim’s exceptional dedication and kindness under pressure earned her the Board Administrative Assistant of the Year Award. From providing personal support to trustees to fostering a sense of community, Margaret’s contributions have elevated the Lyon County School District’s operations and culture.

Board Support Staff Person of the Year:

Selena Gomez, Churchill County School District

Selena Gomez, a cornerstone of Churchill County School District for the past decade, is recognized for her professionalism and empathy. As an administrative aide, her meticulous organization and genuine care have streamlined processes and supported families in need, making her an invaluable member of the district.

School District Employee Making a Difference:

Leticia Servin, Carson City School District

Leticia Servin, a Bilingual Parent Engagement Coordinator, is celebrated for her unwavering commitment to bridging families and schools. With 25 years of service, Ms. Servin has empowered English Language Learner families through bilingual programs and strategic initiatives that foster collaboration and inclusivity.

Director of the Year:

Jeff Durham, Elko County School District

Jeff Durham’s dedication as a Trustee for the Elko County School District and NASB Director has set a high standard for leadership. His advocacy for professional development, legislative engagement, and student success has made a profound impact on education at the local and state levels.

Friend of K-12 Public Education Award:

Wendy Madson, Healthy Communities Coalition

Executive Director Wendy Madson is honored for her pioneering work in removing barriers to student success.

Individual School Board Member of the Year:

Teresa Dastrup, Elko County School District

Teresa Dastrup is recognized for her innovative leadership and resilience as a trustee since 2015. Her initiatives, including project-based learning and a four-day school week, reflect her commitment to student success and community engagement.

Innovative Educators of the Year:

Brad Campbell, White Pine School District: 

Dr. Campbell is celebrated for his engaging teaching methods and leadership in education, inspiring both students and colleagues.

Cade Baligad, Douglas County School District: Mr. Baligad has revolutionized Career and Technical Education, fostering hands-on learning opportunities that connect students with real-world careers.

 New School Board Member of the Year:

Colleen Westlake, Washe County School District

Since January 2023, Trustee Colleen Westlake has demonstrated extraordinary dedication, visiting schools, engaging families, and championing student resources. Her integrity and passion for education are unmatched.

District-Level Administrator of the Year:

Dr. Sue Segura, Churchill County School District

Dr. Segura’s leadership in the Work-Based Learning Program has connected students with career opportunities, resulting in remarkable increases in university applications, internships, and scholarships.

Veteran School Board Members of the Year:

Matt Hyde, Churchill County School District:

 Recognized for over a decade of dedicated service and leadership during challenging times.

Larry Small, Nye County School District: Honored for his unwavering commitment to fostering educational opportunities and community engagement.

Superintendents of the Year:

Adam Young, White Pine County School District: 

A visionary leader advancing student achievement and redefining success beyond academics.

Pam Teel, Lincoln County School District: Celebrated for nearly three decades of service and her transformative impact on education in Lincoln County.

School Board Governance Team of the Year:

Elko County School District

The Elko County School Board and Superintendent Clayton Anderson are recognized for their strategic leadership and dedication to student success, exemplified by initiatives in STEM, CTE, and wellness programs.
