With eight freshmen and sophomores on the squad, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team have caught fire with seven straight wins to begin the season.
The Lady Longhorns went on the road this past weekend and beat Pershing County 39-29 and Coral Academy Science 42-17 to move to 2-0 in the Northern 2A.
When Battle Mountain and Pershing County get together, it is usually a fight to the end and Friday night in Lovelock was no different.

The Lady Longhorns led 26-25 after three quarters of play and scoring continued to be hard to find in the final eight minutes of play. The Mustangs did not score in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, as junior Noel Hill hit a bucket to give Battle Mountain a 29-25 lead.
Up 29-28, Hill added a pair of free throws and later in the fourth quarter, Paityn Johns added a free throw to make the score 32-29.
The dagger came late in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer by Hill.
Battle Mountain traveled to Lowry on Tuesday and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Longhorns close out the 2024 calendar year on Friday at North Tahoe at 6 p.m. and Saturday in Incline at 2 p.m.
