The Lowry High School wrestling team found itself back atop the standings of its own Cody Louk Invitational on the strength of seven wrestlers in the finals.

Pete Bengochea at 113 pounds, Kruz Gomez (126), Randy Patterson (175) and Jhett Harber (190) captured individual titles for the Buckaroos.

Edward Jones (106), Erick Valencia (165) and Logan Jonas (285) each finished second.

Lowry cruised to the team title with 291.5 points, with Carson second at 197. Spanish Springs (174.5), Spring Creek (165.5) and Battle Mountain (155) rounded out the top five.

Bengochea did not see a bout go past the second period, winning his first to matches in a combined 45 seconds with pins of Zoey Wildblood and Jayden Kiser. Bengochea advanced to the final with a second-period pin over Battle Mountain’s Finn Bundrock and won the title in an 18-1 tech fall over Carson’s Jesse Oliva.

Lowry's Kruz Gomez collects a win by pin at the Cody Louk Invitational.

Gomez was on the mat for just 49 seconds or less, as he cruised to three victories by fall. He reached the final with a pin of Douglas’ Isaac Bedrosian.

Gomez beat South Tahoe’s Theodore Bergquist 14-2 in the finale. Gomez had his struggles with Bergquist in the Thursday dual but it was a much different story on Saturday.

Patterson collected four wins on the weekend, including three by decision.

After a first-round bye, Patterson defeated Spanish Springs’ Joe Hawkins 18-3. He reached the finals with a 17-5 win over Pershing County’s Wyatt Hughes and won the title on a 11-5 decision over Spanish Springs’ Andrew Corea.

Harber made quick work in each of his five wins at 190 pounds.

The senior won three bouts by pin, including the championship over Reno’s Eli Sellers with nine seconds left in the first period. Harber will be the lone Buckaroo to compete at the Tournament of Champions in Reno.

“This is something he wants to in college,” said LHS coach John Brooks. “This is a good chance to se where he is and I wasn’t going to deny him that chance.”

After getting through a 5-0 decision in his first match, Jones won his next two matches by pin at 106 pounds. Jones was knocked off the title match in a 11-0 decision to Reno’s Arjun Mediwala.

Valencia cruised in his three matches, winning them all by pin but was knocked off by South Tahoe’s Kash Hendrick. Hendrick is one of the best wrestlers in Nevada at 165 pounds.

Jonas won his first four matches by pin, with the first three not going past 47 seconds. He lost in the final to Carson’s Dominic Porter.

Odyn Santos at 138 pounds and Teyo Gomez (150) collected fourth-place finishes for Lowry. Santos advanced to the championship semifinals and Gomez had to battle back from a quarterfinal loss to teammate Ben Marvel.

Marvel finished fifth at 150 pounds. Ethan Garcia (120) and Maddex Hislop (157) each placed sixth.

For the Lowry Gold, Bradyn Snyder (132) and Giovanni Monroy (165) were sixth.

Lowry travels to Lovelock on Saturday for the Pershing County Invitational.
