Last weekend, the PCHS volleyball team hit the ground running at the Yerington tournament, a 32-team event packed with games to watch and play.
The Mustangs competed in multiple games over the two-day event and walked off with the championship for their bracket.
On Friday, they defeated Pyramid Lake but lost to Fernley and Eureka.
Saturday, they beat ROP, Oasis Academy and Wells, to advance to the Silver Championship Bracket where they beat the Virginia City Muckers (25-15, 25-20).
Finally, they won the Silver Bracket Championship game against the Pahranagat Valley Panthers (15-25, 25-5, 15-11).
“This game was the most fun with energy and lots of good stuff happening on our side. Each girl contributed, and the bench was loud,” coach Monica Halverson said.
“The Yerington Tournament is always a fun way to start our season. There are some talented teams. We learn our rotations, what to fix and who plays best in what position and scenario.”
This Friday and Saturday, the JV and varsity teams will compete in the Battle Mountain Tournament.
On Friday, the varsity is scheduled to play West Wendover at 10 a.m., Lowry JV at 1 p.m., Lincoln County at 4 p.m. and Eureka at 6 p.m.
Bracket play begins on Saturday morning.
