The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team climbed onto the bus this past weekend for a two-day tournament at White Pine High School in Ely.
“Ever since White Pine went to Southern 2A, this tournament allows us to play some teams we wouldn’t normally see in our regular season,” said BMHS coach Julia Ramirez.” “It was a great opportunity to play Milford this year because they have incredible court sense and run their offense well. We look forward to attending next fall”.
The Lady Longhorns played four pool matches on Friday going 1-3 on the opening day.
Battle Mountain lost 25-23 and 25-19 to Round Mountain, as Addison Matheus led the Lady Longhorns with five kills. Lindsey Bleak, Asier Iturriaga and Alexis Rangel each added two kills.
Stevlana Martinez and Iturriaga had two aces apiece, Martinez and Matheus each had three blocks, Bleak had a team-high 10 digs and Jazmin Johson had seven assists.

Up next was a match against Awaken Christian and the Lions rolled to a 25-10 win in the first set.
Battle Mountain came back and won the second set 25-24, but Awaken Christian claimed the third set 15-10 to win the match.
Battle Mountain earned its first win, beating host White Pine 25-24, 25-23.
Martinez paced the Lady Longhorns with six kills and two blocks, Halie Edgar and Matheus adding three kills apiece.
The Lady Longhorns collected 12 aces, including four from Bleak and two each from Alissa Heinz, Iturriaga and Martinez.
Battle Mountain was busy on defense with 15 digs from Bleak, 13 apiece from Alexis Rangel and Iturriaga and eight by Andrea-Alcaraz-Lopez. Johnson contributed seven assists.
In the final pool match on Friday, Lincoin County knocked off Battle Mountain 25-23, 25-24.
Martinez collected a team-high three kills and Ella Moore and Alcaraz-Lopez each had three assists.
Martinez and Matheus combined for five kills and Rangel and Bleak added 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
In bracket play on Saturday morning, Battle Mountain saw its tournament end with a 25-18, 25-21 loss to Milford, Utah.
Battle Mountain hosts its tournament this weekend, with the varsity playing at the high school and the JV at the junior high.
On Friday, Battle Mountain is scheduled to play Carlin at 8 a.m., Dayton JV ( 9 a.m.), Spring JV (10 a.m.) and White Pine ay 3 p.m.
