It has been a common practice for the Lowry High School girls soccer team to open the preseason with a tournament in Spring Creek.
However, the Lady Bucks changed it up this year for the beautiful sites of the Sierra Nevada Mountains with a three-day tournament hosted by South Tahoe.
Lowry dropped all four of its matches but played competitive games against larger schools.
The Lady Bucks opened with Spanish Springs on Thursday, Aug. 15, and lost 1-0 to the Cougars.
Sophomore Kaitlin Messmer was in goal for Lowry, as Cleo Fowler is still recovering from a broken leg but is expected back.
LHS coach Christ Entwistle noted the Lady Bucks have been battling the injury bug.
Lowry took on Southeast Career Tech on Friday, Aug. 16, and was tied 1-1 at halftime after a goal by senior Kepa Hilbish.
The Roadrunners, who played in the 4A South Regional tournament last year, scored twice in the second half to win 3-1.
In its first match on Saturday at Lake Tahoe Community College, Carson used a first-half goal from Alondra Carrillo to beat Lowry 1-0. Messmer had five saves for the Lady Bucks.
In the tournament finale on Saturday afternoon, Lowry lost 2-0 to Doral Academy Red Rock.
The Dragons beat Southeast Career Tech last year in the Southern 4A regional tournament and reached the semifinals. Messmer collected eight saves.
