Pershing County volleyball team gets ready for 2024 season in California

This past Saturday, the Pershing County High School varsity volleyball team traveled to Susanville, Calif., to scrimmage against five other teams.

Those included host Lassen High School, along with Bishop Manogue, Galena, Modoc and Westwood.

Each game had a 20-minute time limit with sides switched halfway through and no score keeping.

Pershing County seniors Raegan Burrows and Aaliyah Allen participated, along with Laura Gomez, Mia Canchola, Jaymie George, Emma Blondheim, Kenya Vaughan, Arya Garland and Khloe Montes.

Coach Monica Halverson met her daughter Kaylen at LCC, where Kaylen plays beach volleyball.


“Our girls held their own and competed at a decent level,” said Lovelock coach Monica Halverson. “It was fun to see my team making plays, dominating the net and playing smart defense.”

The coach had a chance to visit with her daughter Kaylen (PCHS Class of 2023). 

Kaylen plays beach volleyball for Lassen, where she’s starting her sophomore year.

The Mustangs competes in the Yerington Tournament this weekend and travels to Battle Mountain on Aug. 23-24.

The Mustangs begin Northern 2A play with road trips to Silver Stage on Aug. 28 and Oasis Academy in Fallon on Aug. 30.

After two more road matches against Coral Academy and Sierra Lutheran, Pershing County hosts Incline on Saturday, Sept. 7.
