Temperatures are still over 100 degrees and the new school year does not start for more than a week but high school teams are on the field or the court for the fall season.
The Pershing County and Lowry High School football teams travel to Battle Mountain on Saturday for a scrimmage. Elko, Spring Creek and White Pine will also make the trip to Longhorn country.
The Pershing County volleyball team will make its way to Lassen, Calif., on Saturday for a scrimmage.
The Lowry volleyball team will travel east to Spring Creek on Saturday for a scrimmage as well.
The regular season gets underway on Aug. 16, as the Battle Mountain football team travels to Beatty to play Needles, Calif.
Meanwhile, Pershing County hosts Wooster on Aug. 16, with the JV kicking off at 4:30 p.m.
The Lowry football team kicks off on Aug. 23 against Columbia, Idaho, with the JV at 4:30 p.m.
The Pershing County and Lowry volleyball teams travel to Yerington on Aug. 16-17 for a tournament, while Battle Mountain will be in Ely for the White Pine tournament on the same weekend.
The Lowry boys and girls soccer teams will travel to South Tahoe, Calif., on Aug. 15-17 for a three-day tournament.
Battle Mountain volleyball will host its tournament on Aug. 23-24, with the Pershing County JV and varsity teams competing, as well as the Lowry freshmen and JV.
