Earlier this summer, dozens of Mustang athletes set workout goals.
As the season draws to a close, many have completed the program. Not for the first time, coach Mike Brooks designed a T-shirt to mark their efforts.
It’s an eye-catching design. A muscular horse in Mustang garb and gym shoes grips a barbell and prepares to lift it from the ground.
The words “Mustang Strength “and “Horsepower” frame the school mascot.
“The shirts were a reward I gave for kids who hit their workout goal,” Brooks said. “I designed them and had them made by a gentleman in Dayton, GsTees.”
Thirty football players earned a shirt, but a few went above and beyond the 30-workout target.
Ramon Sanchez, a junior, set a school record by hitting 40 days of workouts. Jorden Fitch finished with 39. Logan Hunt had 37. Ashton Jimenez completed 35.
“A handful of ladies got or will get tee-shirts too,” said Brooks. “I ran out and had to order more.” The girls weren’t required to be at weights, but several decided to meet the same requirements as the football team.
The PCHS girls included Emma Hughes, Arya Garland, Katelynn Elerick, Magdalena Ramirez, Laura Gomez and Lilli Wagner. Bella Zelaya and Avani Rosas came from the middle school.
Now the off-season gives way to the high school sports seasons. Hunt and Jimenez wrestle.
Hunt plays baseball while Jimenez, Fitch and Sanchez run track. Sanchez also plays basketball.
But, for now, they are all in practice for the beginning of an event they’ve looked forward to for months - the 2024 Mustang football season.
