The Lowry High School baseball team made its final road trip of the season this past weekend with a three-game series against Churchill County in Fallon.

The Greenwave maintained their playoff push to Spring Creek, winning all three games. 

Churchill County won 7-3 on Friday and swept a doubleheader 4-0 and 14-0 on Saturday. 

The Buckaroos dropped to 5-18 overall and 0-12 in league play.


Churchill County 7, Lowry 3

Lowry grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the opener on Friday, as Txema Bengochea led off the contest with a single and he later scored on a wild pitch.

Churchill County quickly countered, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Buckaroos could not recover from there. 

Connor Peterson closed the gap to 6-2 in the third inning, as his single plated Bengochea.

Lowry added a single run in the sixth inning to close the gap to 7-3 but left two runners on base in the seventh inning after a pair of walks.

Jake Bauman paced Lowry with two hits and Brayden Dennis, Bryce Niblack, Zaq Growcock, Bengochea and Peterson each had one hit.

ReiCyan Grau struck out four in his complete game and none of the eight runs were earned, as Lowry committed three errors.


Churchill County 4, Lowry 0

The first game of the doubleheader on Saturday proved to be a pitcher’s duel. Lowry’s Angus Boyles struck out five and allowed just two hits through five innings of work.

Churchill County senior Baylor Sanberg was just as dominant, as he struck out 16 batters and walked just one, allowing two hits. Bauman and Bengochea had the only Buckaroo hits.

Churchill County scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning. Boyles allowed five hits and he struck out seven and walked two. All four runs were unearned.


Churchill County 14, Lowry 0

In the series finale, the Greenwave plated three runs in the opening inning and led 9-0 after three innings of play on their way to the run-rule win. 

Lowry was held to three hits, one each by Peterson, Valencia and Niblack.

The Buckaroos close out the season with a three-game series at home against Dayton, starting on Thursday at 3 p.m. 

They play a doubleheader on Friday at 11 a.m.
