Even though the scores didn’t all go as the Mustangs hoped, they had an epic baseball week.

On Monday, April 8, they traveled to Battle Mountain to complete their sweep against the Longhorns (11-4, 17-11). The Mustangs went 3-0 against their rival school.

On Thursday, April 9,  the Mustangs played the Oasis Academy Bighorns at the Greater Nevada Field, home of the Reno Aces.

The team sold tickets to raise money for the game. Coach Jared Jensen is grateful to the fans who showed up for the boys.

“We still have tickets for sale at $20 apiece. They get you into every game except the Fourth of July,” he said. See any PCHS baseball player for a ticket.

Pershing County jumped out against Oasis with two runs and led throughout the first five innings.

“We had a strong performance and unfortunately lost on a game-ending walk off hit,” said Jensen. “We were beating them 4-3 in the fifth and the wheels fell off.”

On Saturday the Mustangs hosted Oasis. Pershing lost the last two games of the series (13-1, 25-8).

“Every team we’ve played has told us we’re building something special. Eventually it will all click. We’ve had competitive games against the top teams in the league. Trenton Rhodes had a spectacular week batting and Wyatt Hughes stepped up pitching for us,” Jensen said.

“We are building great young men and giving them experiences they can cherish for life. Everyone wants to win and we will keep working towards that but giving them experiences they will remember forever is important.”

Pershing County traveled to Incline on Thursday, April 18. Results were not available at press time. They’ll return to Incline on Monday, April 22.

On Tuesday, April 23, Pershing County hosts SLHS for the first of a 3-game series.

On April 30 the boys travel to Silver Springs to play the Nighthawks.

The Mustangs host their last two games of the regular season on Saturday, May 4, senior day.

Aaron Kienbaum and Conner Fecht are the team’s only seniors.

“We stand a good chance of winning these last eight games and getting our record above.500,” said Jensen.
