Enjoy the spring weather this Saturday, April 20, during the annual Color the Mucc 3K and 5K beginning at 10 a.m. at the Ralph Whitworth Recreation Complex.
Registration open at 9:30 a.m., and celebrate afterwards at the Party in the Park with Winnemucca Domestic Violence Services (WDVS).
The Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce and Humboldt General Hospital (HGH) are partnering to promote community fitness and wellness with the run/walk and WDVS is hosting the Party on the soccer field adjacent to the Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club and has invited multiple community partners to participate in the fun.
There will be 20 color stations for runners and walkers to go through and various other activities for the community to enjoy after the run/walk, including nearly 30 different vendor booths, food trucks, a DJ, activities, a static display of the MedX helicopter, games and more until 2 p.m.
“The Chamber started the Color Run in 2013. Our goal was to provide a family friendly event for our community. Something different and fun for all ages. The day was chilly, yet we had an amazing turn out. We hoped to have at least a two year run thinking folks would get tired of the event and move on! Here we are 11 years later and enjoying a bigger and better event each year,” said Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce President Alicia Cramer.
“Party in the Park is an opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy themselves while also learning about human services and gain useful information,” explained WDVS Board Treasurer and Party in the Park Chair Wendy Raynor. “It is a community event where organizations can get their information out to the community while providing fun activities for the whole family. Whether or not you participate in the Color Run, everyone is welcome at the Party!”
Additionally, proceeds from the Color Run go towards a scholarship for Lowry students provided by the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce Scholarship and donations from the Party in the Park will go to WDVS services.
Raynor said “The funding stays here in the community 100 percent.”
April is a big month for WDVS, with multiple campaigns taking place to raise awareness for different forms of domestic violence and the Party in the Park helps get the message out to the community.
Cramer said that this event is a great opportunity to spread awareness. “[WDVS get to] share who they are and what they contribute to our community as well as all the vendors that show up to share their missions within our community. The Chamber helps provide a venue to showcase everything from local no profits, emergency services, and local community organizations.”
Two hundred-fifty to 400 people are expected to participate in the event, not including the vendors, according to Cramer and Raynor.
A few of the participating organizations include: Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, MedX, Humboldt County Juvenile Services, Humboldt Connections, the Boys & Girls Club, and many more.
“Color the Mucc…serves as a platform for community engagement, enjoyment, and business visibility, with local businesses participating as sponsors of color stations. By co-hosting this event, Humboldt General Hospital not only helps to ensure its success but also contributes to the overall well-being and engagement of the community. The event provides attendees with an enjoyable activity while fostering connections and promoting local businesses, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole,” explained HGH Marketing and Community Outreach Director JoAnn Casalez.
