Nevada’s utility and small-scale solar capacity increased 647 percent over the last decade while its generation output increased 922 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by Climate Central.
The state produced 667 megawatts of solar power in 2014. Last year, it produced just under 5,000 megawatts of solar power, the sixth most in the nation.
Utility-scale solar contributed 23 percent — 9,733 gigawatt hours — of Nevada’s total electricity in 2023, according to the report, which pulled data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The Gemini solar facility northeast of Las Vegas is scheduled to come online this year and add 690 megawatts of solar capacity and 380 megawatts of battery storage for the state. Being built on 7,000 acres, it’s expected to be the largest solar energy facility in the country once operational.
