With a bye week in the Northern 3A East schedule, the Lowry High School softball team hit he road to Sparks and Reno for four games against Northern 5A schools.
Lowry took on Spanish Springs in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2, with the Cougars winning both games 12-2 and 19-9.
The Lady Bucks took in a University of Nevada baseball game that night and were back on the field in Northwest Reno on Wednesday, April 3, at McQueen High School.
Lowry dropped a 6-5 decision to the Lancers and later in the day, lost to Bishop Manogue 16-10.
The Lady Bucks are 1-5 in league play and 7-14 overall.
Spanish Springs 12, Lowry 2
Spanish Springs was one game away from advancing to the 5A state tournament a season ago and bring back another competitive squad this year.
The Cougars scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, when the Lady Bucks got one back in the second inning when Bailey Peterson scored with the aid of a Spanish Springs error.
Spanish Springs extended its lead to 7-1 in the fifth inning, when Natayla Guizar scored on an error for Lowry another run.
Adalyn Entwistle and Peterson each had two hits and Crisslyn Rodriguez added a hit as well.
Savannah Stoker suffered the loss in the circle.
Spanish Springs 19, Lowry 9
Both offenses exploded for a combined 15 runs in the first inning, with Lowry striking first, as Stoker hit a three-run home run to score Entwistle and Hayden Case, giving Lowry a 3-0 advantage.
For Stoker, it was her 46th career home run to tie the all-time Nevada home run record.
The Lady Bucks extended the lead to 5-0 off of singles by Guizar and Isabel Upton.
Spanish Springs erased that deficit and doubled up Lowry with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Maddison McClure began a two-run rally in the third inning for Lowry with a leadoff double and Elisabeth Geroge scored after an error. George was running for McClure.
The lead shrunk to 10-7 off a base hit by Peterson.
Spanish Springs put the game out of reach with five runs in the third inning.
McClure and Guizar paced Lowry with three hits apiece and Entwistle added two hits. Stoker, Peterson and Upton had one hit apiece. George and Guizar split time in the circle.
McQueen 6, Lowry 5
The trip around the Northern 5A continued, as Lowry visited McQueen on April 3. Lowry grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Entwistle stole home to give the Lady Bucks a one-run lead.
The Lancers answered back with three runs in the first and three more in the third inning to lead 6-1. The Lady Bucks slowly climbed their way back into the contest.
Lowry added a run in the fourth inning as Cambria Tisue scored off a bunt single by Entwistle.
The gap closed to 6-3 in the fifth inning, when Stoker set the all-time home run record with a solo shot in the fifth inning.
The Lady Bucks added two runs in the sixth inning, but the rally ended with two pop outs. The Cougars ended the game in the seventh on a double play. Lowry out-hit McQueen 9-3, with Stoker collecting two hits.
Stoker suffered the loss in the complete game, striking out 14. She allowed six runs (three earned) on three hits.
Bishop Manogue 16, Lowry 10
Bishop Manogue scored runs in each of the first four innings to lead 14-0. Lowry broke through in the fifth inning with seven runs, which included a two-RBI double from Peterson and RBI singles by Upton, George and Rodriguez.
Stoker added a two-run home run in the seventh but the rally ended with two runners on base. Lowry out-hit Bishop Manogue 18-12, with Entwistle, Stoker, Peterson and Rodriguez each collecting three each, McClure added two hits. Guizar and George split time in the circle.
Lowry travels to Spring Creek on Friday for a single game at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
