The Pershing County High School girls soccer went on the road against the top team in the 3A on Friday.

The Elko Indians walked off with the win, adding another notch to their six-game winning streak. The Mustangs continued to Spring Creek and lost 11-0.

"The Lady Mustangs thank Ashley Harvey for taking time out of the weekend to be one of our van drivers," said Coach Kelly Brooks.

Brooks focuses on each player's strengths. At Friday's game against Elko, they practiced defending quick passes on the outside. They hope to capitalize on that skill in the more attainable games ahead of them.

"Lily Burt had an amazing game with countless saves. Mady Grenz, Lexie Portillo and Anika Happy have been playing together well on defense. We were happy to get Kimi Trowbridge back on the field. Riley Harvey and Yasmin Acosta continue coming up strong as our center mids," Brooks said.

On Saturday the Mustangs played short against Spring Creek due to illness. Team members filled in and did their best.

PCHS junior goalie Lily Burt makes a save.

"We had some sick girls who were unable to play. We didn't have the showing I hoped for but there were still some good things on the field. Lily Burt remains fearless in the goal. Nayeli Acosta has stepped up her defensive game. Miya Gallagher made plays all over the field as center mid. She kept the game exciting with her ability to take the ball up the field for scoring opportunities."

Gallagher scored a goal against Spring Creek via a penalty kick but it was called back due to illegal positioning.

The Mustangs remain buoyant as they look forward to their Homecoming Games this weekend.

They love nothing more than playing their hearts out for a supportive home crowd.

On Friday they play White Pine at 2 p.m. Lovelock lost 3-0 to White Pine in their season opener but the coach says they've improved since then and should offer a more competitive game.

On Saturday, they host West Wendover at 11:45. The Mustangs beat the Wolverines 6-2 early in the year. No matter what, you can count on the Mustangs for a fast-paced energetic game.

"We hope to add another W to our win column," said Brooks.
