The Pershing County Mustangs took full advantage of the extra practice time they got from their opponent's cancellation last Friday.
It showed when they blanked Yerington 50-0 on the road this past weekend.
Now the Mustangs are looking forward to their Homecoming Game against the North Tahoe Lakers (0-4) this Friday.
The JV plays at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7 p.m.
Coach Mike Brooks shared his thoughts about last Friday's win against the Lions.
"We were anxious to get back to the field and it's always fun to play Yerington. We were happy with the energy and effort the kids played with," he said.
Pershing County scored a rushing touchdown in the first quarter and made the point after to end the first quarter at 7-0.
The Mustangs kept the plays coming.
Aaron Kienbaum kicks a PAT against Yerington.
Defensively, the Mustangs made a team effort to hold Yerington to zero points.
At the half, Travis Donaldson rushed three yards. He also rushed for the two-point conversion, bringing the halftime score to 22-0.
A passing touchdown in the third quarter was quickly followed by a rushing touchdown. The third quarter ended at 34-0.
Throw in two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the Mustangs got the win.
Pershing County now stands at 1-3, overall and 1-1 in the 2A.
"We still have a lot of areas to improve in but this was our best game to date as far as effort and execution," Brooks said. "Daniel Jimenez is finding his groove offensively and played well on the line. Travis Donaldson and Izayuh McGlothin ran the ball well. Izayuh also had a good game defensively and Trenton Rhodes stood out too."
This Friday the boys play under the Harvest Moon.
The more exuberant the home crowd, the better. The coaches and team hope for a strong Lovelock showing on a festive and meaningful night.
