The Lowry High School girls golf team remained in the hunt for a berth in the state tournament in October, with a tie for fifth place in Falllon on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
South Tahoe won the tournament with a score of 410, followed by Wooster (413) and Elko (414) were second and third, respectively.
Fernley finished fourth at 460 and Lowry and host Churchill County tied for fifth at 472. Spring Creek (474), Truckee (545), Dayton (560) and North Valleys (574) rounded out the team scores.
Wooster’s Rya Montoya was the low medalist with a round of 80 and teammate Emily Whetzel (81) placed second. South Tahoe’s Ava Wolfer (94) finished third and Elko’s Katharine Winer and Spring Creek’s Hazel Zastrow (96) tied for fourth.
Lowry’s Katie Cassinelli finished sixth with a round of 97 and teammate Lainey Novacek carded a 110. Isabella Bartell shot 127, Kaliani Rodriguez (138), Naomi Miller (142) and Bailey Miller (162).
South Tahoe leads the Northern 3A with 22 points, with Wooster a point behind at 21. Fernley is third with 15 points, followed by Lowry (13.5) and Elko (13).
The Northern 3A does not have a postseason tournament and the three bids to the state tournament are based on the final regular season point standings.
Lowry hosted the Northern 3A on Monday, Sept. 25, and Fernley held its tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Results were not available at press time.
The regular season concludes on Monday, Oct. 9, I, Lake Tahoe and Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Truckee.
The NIAA 3A State Championships are scheduled for Oct. 17-18 in southern Nevada.
