Desert Town Reflections

Devolution

Evolution is quite a well accepted scientific theory throughout the world and has been popular ever since the time of Darwin.

I, however, have my own personal theory in this field of biological study. I call it “The O’Connor theory of devolution”. And I’ve been thinking of incorporating it in my PHD thesis.

In formulating this concept, what I envisioned was a past society of humans, well fed, happy, lazy, carefree and wanting to return to nature.

They didn’t care to work being that they could live off the land.

They were something like a 1960’s hippy commune colony wanting to be free and totally independent.

They had no care about things like fashion, etiquette, prestige, a house in the subbords with a white picket fence or joining the country club.

Their climate was mild so when their clothing wore out, they didn’t bother to replace them. And for comfort and shelter, they built tree houses.

They lived off the abundance of their environment, wild fruit and nuts. Also, they drank from the crystal clear stream.

Being that they had no use for education or schooling, their language and verbal communication degraded into gestures and grunts.

All went relatively well.

They survived and thrived and after a few generations, they grew tails!

So that is why, here today. If you happen to see a monkey in a cage at the zoo, I think you should show him some respect. You see, his great, great great grandfather could have been a professor at Oxford!

This is all just satire, of course, dear reader.

But I do believe there have been a great deal of ups and downs all along our path through history. We’ve come from the stone age to the space age. However it has not been a steady and continual climb. We’ve fallen back a few steps many times and, sadly, it appears we may be doing so once again.

Not that long ago we had logic, reason and common sense as guidelines for successful living. Not so any more. These antiquated ideas have been thrown out the window by our modern day woke idology.

These days men can be women and women can be men just by deciding so and utilizing chemicals, drugs and surgical alteration.

And if you think this is crazy, absurd and nonsensical, well you are likely  identified as the crazy one.

Our discovery and exploitation of oil in our not too distant past catapulted our human race light years ahead with progress and development of better standards of living.

As a result, we can now afford a lifetime of leisure and comfort.

But all this is being planned for reversal to be tossed into the scrapheap of history. By the year 2035 we are supposed to be carbon neutral, which means getting our life source of energy from wind or solar.

This, dear reader, will work out well, if we all believe in magic!

Farms and food production are being reduced, population too. Cows passing gas are considered to be a threat to our environment, so they are being culled.

Privacy, travel, car ownership and having kids are all being publicly discouraged. Cash is rapidly being phased out along with private banking accounts.

The government is soon to have the sole monopoly of all currency creation, control and distribution. And all this, they say, is for the public good.

So, what could possibly go wrong?

I’m just skimming over the highlights of our radically changing world here to help point to the validity of my devolution theory.

No, I don’t think we’re going back to growing tails and living in trees in the jungle. But I do think we could fall back a few hundred years to something resembling the Dark Ages.

And this, believe it or not, is an optimistic outlook compared to yet  another totally self destructive modern “solution”. That is, of all things, the use of nuclear warfare!

With this drastic cenario, life on Planet Earth may not totally extinguish. There could still be cockroaches!
